Showcasing the wind band music of Percy Grainger, including favourites Lincolnshire Posy and Irish Tune from County Derry (“Danny Boy”). Australia considers Grainger its greatest composer; the U.S., where he lived most of his life, praises him as a music educator, composer and arranger of band music; and England considers him supremely important in the preservation and arrangement. Arguably the most well-known wind band work of Percy Grainger, all six movements of Lincolnshire Posy have been arranged here for clarinet ensemble: Lisbon, Horkstow Grange, Rufford Park Poachers, The Brisk Young Sailor, Lord Melbourne, and The Lost Lady Found. From 1905-06, Grainger traveled around Lincolnshire, England, collecting and documenting local folk songs. Grainger referred to this. Two Movements from Lincolnshire Posy Two Movements from Lincolnshire Posy arr. Michael Sweeney - Hal Leonard Corporation Featuring two of the most popular movements from this cornerstone of wind band literature, this mini suite consists of Horkstow Grange and The Lost Lady Found.

Assesment[edit]
I found this rated 'Start', but there can't be much more to say. I was torn between rating it B or C, but my unfamiliarity with the technical side, and hence the suitability of the references, made me uncharacteristically on the cautious side. I do know it to be a wonderful bit of music.

Saxophones[edit]
Lincolnshire Posy has 6 saxophone parts written (soprano, alto subtituting soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and and bass ad lib.). Grainger asks that the soprano be preferred if possible. However the soprano part is quite low so it is often played with the alto saxophone (info from the 1940 edition). Fennell arrangement removes the ad lib. and substitution and asks for six saxophones, the previous subtitution written as separate alto 1 (read from the score, I don’t have access to the parts). Maybe the instrumentation should thus be: 5 saxophones (soprano (or alto), alto, tenor, baritone and and bass ad lib.)?
Edit Request[edit]
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The request was not specific enough. You may consider leaving your comments on the Talk page or escalating significant issues to the conflict of interest noticeboard. |
Information to be added or removed: I would appreciate it if someone could add both a segment of movement five and a corresponding MIDI file.Explanation of issue: My computer is garbage, and as such, cannot handle MIDI files.References supporting change: [1] Here's the IMSLP page.

- @Aven13: this has sat here for about a month now and so I am marking it declined. I lack the ability to know what you want. Perhaps Noahfgodard can still help? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 18:02, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Aven13:@Barkeep49: Sorry for the delay. I put in an excerpt of the free time at the beginning of the movement. Noahfgodard (talk) 23:37, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

It is very unlikely that this work is public domain in the EU, or in any country where the copyright term is life-plus-70 years. However, it is in the public domain in Canada (where IMSLP is hosted) and other countries where the term is life-plus-50 years (such as China, Japan, Korea and many others worldwide). As this work was first published before 1925 or failed to meet notice or renewal requirements to secure statutory copyright with no 'restoration' under the GATT amendments, it is very likely to be public domain in the USA as well. |
